SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) Urea solution is a liquid reducing agent used to reduce emissions from diesel engines. Its main components are high-purity urea (chemical formula CO(NH₂)₂) and deionized water, usually formulated with 32.5% urea and 67.5% deionized water ratio, also known as AdBlue or DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) on the market.

SCR urea solution plays a key role in the exhaust gas treatment system of diesel engines. The specific working principle is as follows:

Injection phase: Exhaust from diesel engines contains large amounts of nitrogen oxides (NOx), which is a major air pollutant. The SCR system sprays urea solution into the exhaust pipe.

Decomposition stage: At high temperatures, the urea solution decomposes into ammonia (NH₃) and carbon dioxide (CO₂).

Reduction stage: The ammonia produced by decomposition reacts chemically with the nitrogen oxides in the exhaust gas in the SCR catalyst, converting harmful NOx into harmless nitrogen (N₂) and water (H₂O).

This technology is widely used in modern diesel engines, especially commercial vehicles and heavy machinery, to meet stringent emission standards and reduce pollution to the environment.

Main advantages

Efficient reduction of NOx emissions: SCR systems can significantly reduce NOx emissions from diesel engines, typically by more than 90%.

Improved Fuel efficiency: SCR systems generally do not significantly increase fuel consumption compared to other exhaust treatment technologies.

Compliance with emission standards: Help vehicles comply with stringent emission regulations such as European standards (e.g. Euro 6), U.S. standards (e.g. EPA Tier 4), etc.

Maintenance and precautions

Regular filling: Vehicles need to be regularly filled with urea solution, usually through a dedicated filling port.

Storage conditions: Urea solution should be stored in an environment of 5 ° C to 25 ° C, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, in order to maintain its chemical properties.
